Egg O'Lantern Bento

Egg O'Lantern Bento, originally uploaded by sherimiya ♥.
Egg-o-lantern today, dyed with beet and shoyu, and with a nori face, sits on greens next to grilled portobello (olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic and green onion). He also gets a piece of corn on the cob, a purple and pink carrot skewer, an orange cherry tomato, some pickled renkon (lotus root) and bittermelon, and sliced pluots. Are you feeling the Halloweeeeen yet?

  8. ah!! I love your Jacks!! We don't celebrate Halloween either here :(.. at least not "officially". There are some costumes and decorations being sold but it is not "that" tradition, came only in later years.
And!! I swear I saw the AnpanMan in that corn cob! (total delirious ^_^)

  16. Thanks, all bento friends! You always give me a smile to read your sweet comments!
My kids' favorite part of Halloween is the dressing up. And the giving candy, hehe!
Karaimame, now that you mention it, I can see the Anpanman too!! You are so observant!
Just a MOM, the bittermelon is pickled in rice vinegar and sugar. You can add lotus root, cauliflower, mushroom, carrot, or whatever vegetable you desire. I also cut the bittermelon smallish to the bitter bite isn't too big. But the vinegar REALLY does cut the bitterness. You must try it. It's actually really good on a salad this way too!
KidsDreamWork, I look forward to your egg o'lantern!
